With his belief that the Napa Valley could be the center of a gracious lifestyle embracing wine, food, and art, in 1966 Robert Mondavi built the valley’s first major winery since Prohibition. Since then, Robert Mondavi Winery has been the quintessential destination for visitors to the Napa Valley, who are drawn by the winery’s history, the legacy of fine winemaking, the stunning mission inspired architecture by Cliff May, and the robust menus of tours, tastings, and elevated wine programs.

With the growing popularity of wine tourism, the winery recognizes that many guests are seeking unique opportunities for wine education and enjoyment. No longer content to rush from winery to winery simply tasting wines, today’s visitors are looking for authentic experiences, a slower pace, and a chance to connect with friends and family during their visits. For this reason, the winery recently moved its main tasting bar to its Vineyard Room and renovated its outdoor spaces to include several inviting patios with comfortable seating and shade umbrellas. Here guests can relax and enjoy the beauty of the celebrated To Kalon Vineyard without feeling rushed or crowded.

Also, there is a wide array of interactive ways guests can learn more about Robert Mondavi wines. The Signature Tour and Tasting leads them along the path of the grape, from vineyard to cellar to bottle. The Exclusive Cellar Tasting gives wine collectors and aficionados a chance to taste limited production, Reserve, and older vintage wines. The Harvest of Joy Tour and Lunch treats guests to a tour of the winery and a three-course lunch paired with wines. The Twilight Tour takes visitors on a 90-minute sunset tour of the To Kalon Cellar and barrel aging rooms, followed by a tasting of Reserve and Spotlight wines with artisanal cheeses.

No matter how visitors choose to experience the winery and spend time on the picturesque grounds, they’re bound to appreciate the major contribution Robert Mondavi Winery has made as a leader of California’s wine industry— and that of much of the world—with innovations in natural winegrowing, winemaking, and cultural outreach. The winery has practiced natural farming for decades, applying an approach that goes beyond rules and strictures of organic farming and considers overall wine quality and environmental impact. The winemaking and winegrowing teams work as a unit to craft wines of great density, rich fruit character, elegance, and finesse that pair beautifully with food. Director of Winemaking Genviève Janssens has been awarded many honors including Wine Enthusiast’s 2010 Winemaker of the Year. She was mentored by Mr. Mondavi himself when she left her native France and joined the winery in 1978.

Today, the winery’s Vineyard Room is an exquisite cultural center, with visual arts exhibits, concerts, book signings, and culinary pairings on the calendar. Social and corporate fine dining events are often hosted in the Vineyard Room. Menus created by the winery’s house chef are inspired by the Napa Valley’s freshest seasonal ingredients and, of course, Robert Mondavi wines.

Robert Mondavi’s vision to make the Napa Valley an international center for wine, food, and art has been realized, and it’s practiced impeccably each day at the winery that bears his name.
