Sonoma, California is a magical place that's rich with agriculture and adventure. There are many places to stay and even more to taste. A day-trip is convenient from the Bay Area, but you'll more than likely wish you had booked several days for time to more fully explore the region and sample the offerings. It’s located 34 freeway miles from San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge and just minutes from Sonoma wineries. Guided tours of wine country and San Francisco depart from KOA from May to October. Enjoy Napa and Sonoma wine countries, giant redwoods, beaches, Six Flags Discovery Kingdom, Sonoma Raceway, Lagunitas Brewing Company, artisan cheese farms, world-class golf courses, and the Premium Outlets Mall. Summer fun at KOA includes a rec program, rock wall, Jumping Pillow, pool and spa, mega playground, karaoke, hayrides, and live weekend entertainment. Pool open from April to October. Schug Carneros Estate

Family owned and operated since 1980, Schug Carneros Estate Winery is located southwest of the town of Sonoma. Known for producing elegant European-style Pinot Noir, the winery also produces superb Bordeaux varietals. Guests can sample the wines in the tasting room and take a free, self-guided vineyard tour. Advance appointments are necessary for the cave tour, which is fascinating.
