Creative Ways to Decorate with Flowers Kathy offers great flower arrangement tips for the home.
Think Beyond the Vase You don’t have to have fancy containers for a stunning flower arrangement. Instead, think about something unexpected, unusual and fun that can hold water and flowers. Things like mason jars or everyday bowls, pitchers and vintage goblets. You can also camouflage soda bottles or sturdy food containers with paint, decorative papers, ribbons and more. Just remember, if it will hold water, it will hold flowers! Forget about using flowers only for special occasions. Treat yourself to some pretty flowers and make them the center of attention at the family dinner table or welcome yourself the moment you walk through the front door with a small bouquet in your front foyer. Get Creative Got a fireplace that you’re not using this season? Then fill it with a big bucket of flowers or lavish your mantel with an eclectic mix of small containers (I like vintage salt & pepper shakers or small bottles) with a single cut stem. Or how about arranging your flowers inside a covered cake plate! You can even have a window treatment using flowers on your windowsill to brighten up you kitchen on a dreary day. Simple Tips for Cut Flowers * Change the water as needed—about every other day. * Add flower food to your water once the container is full. * Before arranging the flowers, cut the stem to length and at a 45-degree angle.
